GeoRobotix Innovative Research is built on the twenty year legacy of Botts Innovative Research (Botts-Inc) and its founder Dr. Michael Botts whose pioneering work has defined what it means to build SensorWebs and Connected Systems. 

Botts-Inc was built on Dr. Botts’ 20 years as a Principal Research Scientist within the National Space Science and Technology Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), where he ran the VisAnalysis and Systems Technology (VAST) Lab.  At UAH, his team was heavily involved in research and development in support of fusion and analysis of data from a wide variety of disparate sensors, resulting in Dr. Botts’ creation of Sensor Model Language (SensorML), and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) SensorWebEnablement (SWE) architecture used all over the world.  The Botts-Inc team then created the world leading, open source, open standards-based OpenSensorHub for integrating Sensors, Things, and Robots (all comprised of sensors, actuators and processes) as location-enabled and geographically-aware, web-accessible services – whether space-based, airborne, mobile, in situ, and terrestrial remote – of all phenomenologies in to a common 4D framework. Building on this legacy, GeoRobotix Innovative Research is connecting our increasingly connected world with the OGC API – Connected Systems Standard that has modernized the OGC SWE legacy using OpenAPI/RESTful patterns.  

The GeoRobotix Innovative Research team is not only a world class R&D services team, and a leader in architecture and standards, but has also demonstrated the ability to commercialize their results as a massively scalable, commercially-supported SaaS version of OpenSensorHub, with the launch of GeoRobotix.  GeoRobotix, Inc is a commercial SaaS/On Prem company that provides subscriptions/licenses to the commercially-supported versions of the OSH open source API for high performance, high availability mission/business environments.

Dr. Mike Botts

(Chief Scientist, GeoRobotix Innovative Research )

Dr. Botts is the creator and chief architect of Sensor Model Language (SensorML), an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) technical standard for describing the measurement and processing of observations from any sensor system. He is a co-chair of the OGC Connected Systems Specification Working Group and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the OGC SWE architecture. Dr. Botts’ twenty year legacy of Botts Innovative Research now lives on in GeoRobotix Innovative Research and the GeoRobotix platform.
